The state electorate of Ovens Valley has an approximate area of 9,600 km².

It is comprised of 93 suburbs including Almonds, Barwidgee, Bathumi, Bobinawarrah, Boomahnoomoonah, Boorhaman, Boorhaman East, Boorhaman North, Boosey, Boralma, Boweya North, Bowmans Forest, Bowser, Buffalo River, Bundalong, Bundalong South, Burramine, Burramine South, Byawatha, Cheshunt South, Cobram, Cobram East, Dinner Plain, Docker and Dockers Plains plus parts of another 5 suburbs.

It is comprised of the localities of Abbeyard, Bright, Buckland, Carboor, Cheshunt, Dandongadale, Edi Upper, Hotham Heights, Katamatite, Mount Buffalo, Mudgegonga, Myrrhee, Rose River, Selwyn, Tungamah, Wabonga and Wonnangatta plus parts of Cobungra, Dargo, Katunga, Tolmie and Wongungarra.

It is comprised of the councils of Mount Hotham Alpine Resort and Wangaratta Rural City plus parts of Alpine Shire and Moira Shire.

It is surrounded by the state electorates of Albury, Benambra, Eildon, Euroa, Gippsland East, Murray and Shepparton.

It is comprised of parts of the federal electorates of Indi and Murray.
