The state electorate of Benambra has an approximate area of 10,000 km².

It is comprised of 66 suburbs including Allans Flat, Bandiana, Baranduda, Barnawartha, Barnawartha North, Bellbridge, Berringama, Bethanga, Bogong, Bonegilla, Brimin, Browns Plains, Bruarong, Bullioh, Bungil, Carlyle, Castle Creek, Charleroi, Chiltern Valley, Colac Colac, Coral Bank, Cornishtown, Corryong, Dederang and Ebden plus parts of Lake Hume Village.

It is comprised of the localities of Beechworth, Biggara, Burrowye, Chiltern, Cudgewa, Eskdale, Falls Creek, Guys Forest, Indigo Valley, Kancoona, Koetong, Lucyvale, Rutherglen, Shelley, Talgarno, Tallangatta South, Tallangatta Valley, Tawonga, Thowgla Valley and Yackandandah plus parts of Dartmouth, Mitta Mitta, Nariel Valley and Tom Groggin.

It is comprised of the councils of Falls Creek Alpine Resort, Indigo Shire, Towong Shire and Wodonga City plus parts of Alpine Shire.

It is surrounded by the state electorates of Albury, Gippsland East and Ovens Valley.

It is within the federal electorate of Indi.
